AFA Competencies
Developing Leaders
What makes a transformational leader?
For more than 25 years, we've been studying what makes a transformational leader in agriculture. We've distilled our observations into six themes or skill areas that we call competencies. Not only are these skills highly sought after by employers, but we believe they'll prepare you to solve problems, strengthen the industry and set you up for success in all aspects of life. The six competencies are woven through all of our programs.
Relationship development
Building and fostering healthy relationships
Systems thinking
Innovatively influencing systems through critical thinking and problem solving
Collaboration
Working effectively with others toward a common goal
Cultural EQ
Performing well in diverse environments, with an inclusive bias
Interpersonal IQ
Relating to others with sensitivity and influence; a built-in bias toward leading and learning
Career management
Using exploration, feedback and reflection to manage yourself and your teams
