The AFA Plant Institute deep dives into the science and technologies surrounding plants. Delegates will spend three days touring area farms, engaging with scientists and learning from industry leaders.
The AFA Plant Science Institute is open to collegiate students pursuing a degree in agriculture or a related field. Students passionate about plant science, leadership, and agriculture are encouraged to apply.
To apply, complete the application form on the AFA website by the deadline. Be prepared to share your academic background, extracurricular activities, and why you’re interested in attending the institute.
The application deadline for the AFA Plant Science Institute is March 10, 2025. Be sure to submit your application by this date to be considered.

The AFA Plant Science Institute is free of charge for selected participants. AFA covers lodging, meals, and programming costs during the event.
Travel costs to and from the AFA Plant Science Institute are the responsibility of the participant or their school. Some schools and organizations may offer travel scholarships or reimbursements—check with your advisor or financial aid office for assistance.
The institute is held in Sacramento, California, providing students with direct access to the nation's unique plant hub.
Pack professional attire suitable for meetings with policymakers and networking events. Comfortable shoes are also recommended, as there may be walking involved during site visits. A full packing list will be sent to selected participants.
