What is the AFA Policy Institute?

The AFA Policy Institute is a premier event designed to immerse students in agricultural policy and advocacy. Participants will engage with policymakers, industry leaders, and peers to gain a deeper understanding of how policy impacts the agriculture and food industries.

Who is eligible to apply?

The AFA Policy Institute is open to collegiate students pursuing a degree in agriculture or a related field. Students passionate about policy, leadership, and agriculture are encouraged to apply.

How do I apply?

To apply, complete the application form on the AFA website by the deadline. Be prepared to share your academic background, extracurricular activities, and why you’re interested in attending the institute.

When is the application deadline?

The application deadline for the AFA Policy Institute is April 7, 2025. Be sure to submit your application by this date to be considered.

When will I be notified if I’m selected?

Applicants will be notified of their selection status via email no later than May 7, 2025. Keep an eye on your inbox for updates.

What is the cost to attend?

The AFA Policy Institute is free of charge for selected participants. AFA covers lodging, meals, and programming costs during the event.

What about travel costs?

Travel costs to and from the AFA Policy Institute are the responsibility of the participant or their school. Some schools and organizations may offer travel scholarships or reimbursements—check with your advisor or financial aid office for assistance.

Where is the AFA Policy Institute held?

The institute is held in Washington, D.C., providing students with direct access to the nation's policy hub.

What should I pack?

Pack professional attire suitable for meetings with policymakers and networking events. Comfortable shoes are also recommended, as there may be walking involved during site visits. A full packing list will be sent to selected participants.
